I love weekends when unexpected things just come together for a really fun couple of days. Last weekend was just that.
Our friends Josh and Amy were supposed to host a housewarming party at their new digs on Saturday afternoon but they had to postpone. Their son Murphy got sick.
A small group of us decided to get together anyway, gathering at Bridget and Brian’s house for a BBQ. We stayed for four hours. The kids all played really well together, and everyone had a great time. Sometimes last minute plans are the best.
The next morning, we decided try someplace new for brunch. We almost always stay home for breakfast on weekend mornings, but I really wanted to go somewhere with my boys. Riley adamantly rebelled, but we eventually got him in the car. And when we were leaving Katie’s after a really great meal, he said, “Mama, next time you want to go out to eat, I’ll go to Katie’s. I really liked it.” Score one for me.
After brunch, since we were so close, we stopped at City Park to let the boys play on the playground for a bit. Rory slid and swung, and Riley climbed trees, including a really big one.
After the park, we went back home and had a laidback day. I worked on stuff for Riley’s 5th birthday party (this weekend!), Kenny built Legos with the boys (who both skipped their naps), and then we went to Nola and Nopsi’s for Sunday dinner. We’ve been going over there on Sundays for about a month now. Uncle Jeff, Aunt E, and Kate come too, and it’s so much fun. The kids play and run around like the crazies they are, the adults chat (and drink), and we all eat dinner together. I love this new tradition of ours. Thanks to Nola and Nopsi for instituting it!
So, in a nutshell, it was a good weekend. Family time is just the best.

I love the new Sunday tradition. Good on ya, Nola and Nopsi. That's something the kids will remember forever.
You made me so very happy.
