Birthday Party Weekend

Claire’s birthday party at Surge was our first of three two weekends ago. We barely saw the boys the majority of our time there; they were way too busy running around with their friends. Everyone came together for cake and ice cream though!

Then, as we were leaving, Diana treated Alcee and my two to a turn in the hurricane simulator. Too funny.

We had two parties on Sunday. The first one was for Rory’s classmate Luke at Colonial Bowling Lanes. It was Rory’s first bowling experience, and though he was scared at first (neither of my kids like to try new things), he ended up liking it. He even won his game (with the help of his mama, the bumpers, and a cool elevated ramp). And we bowled a strike! It still counts, even though it was on someone else’s turn.

After Luke’s party, we stopped by the grocery, went home for a quick lunch, and then headed out again, only this time with all four of us. We went to Lizzie and Doug’s for the Brownies’ second birthday party, unicorn style. Everything was so cute!

Such a fun weekend, although I ate way too much cake. C’est la vie!

Spring Break 2018

The boys were off the whole week after Easter. Riley asked to sleep over at Grandma and Grandpa’s, so I drove both boys across the lake on Monday and they stayed two nights. They battled and played city a lot and took their final trip to Toys ‘R Us. (Very sad that those stores won’t exist anymore. Rory was quite concerned about where he would get new toys from now on.) Kenny and I took advantage of being kid-less: we went to see Ready Player One on Monday and I had dinner with the girls at Velvet Cactus on Tuesday. Happy Spring Break to us, too!

We spent Wednesday and Thursday afternoons over at Nola and Nopsi’s house. Nopsi decided they finally needed to fill in their yard with dirt after 30 years, so he had a big load delivered on Wednesday morning. The boys (and later Kate and Luke) were in heaven.

We had a very busy and fun Friday. We first stopped by to see Nopsi working to distribute the dirt pile throughout the yard with the little loader he rented. Sadly, Riley stayed in the car and Rory refused to do anything but cling to me and look scared. Crazy boys.

We then headed to a playground to meet Heidi, Terah, Diana, and their kids. It was such a nice day, and they all had a blast running around, blowing bubbles, and drawing with chalk. Once they got tired and hungry, we left the playground and took them to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Riley rode with Diana and Alcee, Brennan came with me and Rory, and Terah took the other three girls, while Heidi enjoyed a kid-free ride!

After lunch we decided to try Creamistry, a new ice cream place. The choices were a bit overwhelming but the ice cream was creamy and delicious. I got chocolate, Riley got cotton candy with a side of Oreos, and Rory chose to have M&Ms only. They use liquid nitrogen to instantly freeze each individual order. Very cool.

Everyone parted ways after Creamistry. The Beef Jerky Outlet is right next door, so the boys and I went in to check it out and got a couple of samples. Then we ended up back where we started, at Nola and Nopsi’s, where the two of them got into the pool for the first time this year. They were shivering every time they got out of the water. When they had had enough, we all helped Nopsi spread out the dirt in his yard and got it finished before we left. What a day.

The weekend was just as busy, though: we had three birthday parties to attend!
