School Days: PK4 and 2nd Grade Christmas Parties

Ah, another holiday season, another round of school Christmas parties. Mass was first, followed by the Christmas play. Claire auditioned for and received the role of the donkey this year, and Alcee was chosen to be an angel. They both did great!

After mass and the play, we walked over to the boys’ classrooms. It was very convenient having them right across the hall from each other. I stayed with Rory while Riley went back and forth from Rory’s room to his, showing me all of the candy he was eating. Wonk potatoes. And I was delighted to see that Rory made a special Christmas placemat this year, just like Riley did when he was in PK4. Rory got donut holes and fruit, and he also gave Mrs. Sue and Ms. Megan their “Cozy Little Christmas” presents.

Once we were done in Rory’s room, we went over to Riley’s. He gave Ms. Paulin and Ms. Cobb their gifts and I snapped a pic with all of the remaining 2nd graders. We also spotted their class elf and reindeer, Jingles and Coco.

And with that, the boys’ Christmas break officially began! We had their school friends over for a little party that afternoon. They had a great time playing, exchanging gifts, and having dinner together.

Then we loaded up and went over to Lafreniere Park to see the lights. It was totally gross outside but they had fun anyway, even with the lack of “snow” in the pavilion. Not sure why they didn’t do it this year; it was a hit last year!

Celebration in the Oaks and Kate’s Christmas Play

One week before Christmas, we took our annual trip to Celebration in the Oaks. Kenny was unfortunately out of town for work that night, so the boys and I caught a ride with Nola and Nopsi. We had dinner at Velvet Cactus first and then headed to the park.

We all agreed that the lights this year were exceptionally good. It seemed like they added more and everything was arranged really nicely. So pretty!

There was even a fire ring built around a Christmas tree with “snow” raining down around us!

Luke had an absolute ball running all over the place. All of the kids loved the huge decorated oak tree, and they had a blast dancing to the music in the very back of the park. They were too funny!

It was a bit crowded and too warm for my taste, but we had a great night. It’s one of my favorite annual traditions!

The next night was Kate’s school Christmas play. She played the role of an angel with grace and poise!

We rode with Nola and Nopsi again and passed what the boys call the “winter wonderland” in the first block of their street. They love it!
