Bay St. Louis Weekend

Our annual trip to Bay St. Louis with friends took place the last weekend in July. Twenty of us descended upon Brian’s family’s camp for two nights. This time, however, we had two boats. Kenny and Grandpa worked hard to resurrect and fix up Grandpa’s old 1968 Seagull, which hadn’t been on the water in almost 15 years. They got it ready in time for us to take it with us; Kenny was so excited.

We arrived at the camp just around 6:30pm and ended up going out to the Gulf to look for hermit crabs since it was low tide. There were lots of crabs, as well as tons of jellyfish. Riley was in heaven.

Kenny and I picked up dinner on the way back to the camp since none of us had eaten yet, and we decided to try a place called The Rum Kitchen. It was so good, and much more enjoyable than McDonald’s or Sonic would have been. Fairly tasty margaritas too!

The next morning, after breakfast and some play time for the kids, we headed out in the two boats to the beach. We had about 10 minutes of slow going in the canals that lead to the Jordan River, and the old green boat performed great. We even got up on plane for a short stretch where there were no houses along the canal.

As soon as we got into the river, however, a loud alarm went off and did not quit until Kenny killed the engine. Long story short, the engine overheated, and we ended up having to be towed back to the camp. Kenny was so disappointed.

 

We ate lunch at the house and then half of us went by boat and the other half by car to the beach. We had a great afternoon out there.The kids took turns going for tube rides, while the rest stayed and played on the sand. Riley was SO happy to be able to hang out with Jackson all day. They found another hermit crab and created a whole habitat for him.

We packed up around 5:15pm. Riley and I rode the boat back to the camp, and the kids had a water gun battle under the house before a yummy dinner of burgers, hot dogs, sausage, corn, and watermelon.

Ten Things

1. Let’s start off with some nature, shall we? First pic was taken by a friend of mine in Jackson Hole. Second was taken by me in Nola and Nopsi’s backyard. The world is a beautiful place.

3. Three sleepy Sprouts. The last one was on the way to get Riley from camp. The little one was not happy about being woken up so he went back to sleep in the car.

5. Kenny and Grandpa took the boys to the farm a few weekends ago. They had a great {although hot} day, digging up cow bones, playing in the sand, finding a turtle shell, swimming in the pond (gross), making friends with a tree frog, eating juicy Washington Parish watermelon, and completely passing out in the car on the way home.

 

6. Aunt E and Uncle Jeff went on vacation with Aunt E’s family a couple of weeks ago and asked us to watch Doug while they were gone. The boys absolutely loved having him here and did not want him to go home!

7. Tired boy turns into, “Mama, stop taking my picture!”

 

8. Luke and Kate creating some shade in the pool and Rory in a super colored bath. He accidentally spilled a practically full container of color tablets into the tub. Oops.

9. Riley had two initial orthodontic consults last week. He won’t be getting braces any time soon, but there is lots of work to be done eventually to get his bite and teeth the way they should be. Ugh.

10. Kate turned 6 on July 31, and we celebrated a little early at Sunday dinner. Happy happy birthday, Kate!

Summer Days 2018: Part Four

Since it’s summer, the boys obviously have to come with me when I go to Jazzercise. Riley especially loves it when Maggie is there too. And they all love being able to get the big balls out afterwards.

The school group met up after camp on July 18 to see Hotel Transylvania 3. Pretty silly, but the kids loved it and at least the music was great. Oh, and we took up almost an entire row!

Blake’s mom Jen took some of the boys home from Lego camp the next day to swim at her parents’ house. Riley did not want to leave.

On Sunday, July 22 the crew descended upon Heidi’s house for the day. It had been so hot out that the moms decided to spring for a huge waterslide. The kids had a blast sliding, playing, eating (5 popsicles each!), and having a {short-lived} water balloon fight. Such a fun day.

I’ll eventually have one last post to wrap up our fun summer days, and then it will be time for a new school year. Kindergarten and 3rd grade, here they come!
