Our first major parade of the 2019 Mardi Gras season was Caesar on February 23. The weather forecast wasn’t the greatest, but we went out there anyway. Aunt E and Uncle Jeff came out with Kate and Luke, Ashley and Greg were out there with Grant and Emory, and Heidi and Diana brought Maddie, Brennan, and Alcee.
We only had about half an hour before the rain came. It started out slow but quickly escalated. The kids went to hide in various cars with a few of the adults, but the rest of us stuck it out in the hopes that it would pass over.
It did not. When the lightning started, most of the group called it. Rory wanted to stay, but we only made it through four floats before I played my mama bear card and got us out of there. Such a shame, too; we love Caesar!
The next day dawned beautifully bright and sunny. We did not have plans to go out to parades, but when Ashley texted saying they were out at the beginning of the route on Magazine, it was too tempting to pass up. The kids were instantly excited to go, so we packed up super quickly and headed out to see Carrollton and King Arthur for the first time.
Riley spotted Blake and his family just across the street from us, so we walked over to say hi. It also turned out that Erin and Jeff were also across the street and down a bit from where we were. It was such a beautiful day!
Carrollton is known for throwing small white shrimp boots, while King Arthur’s signature throw is a decorated goblet. I ended up coming home with two shrimp boots and one goblet. Rory scored big black and gold beads and a cute dragon piggy bank, and Riley got a King Arthur wizard hat. So fun!
Krewe of Nyx is next!
