Rory had a great time in his second nine weeks of PK3. Mrs. Claire and Ms. Lisa did SO much with the kids.
Their themes were “People We Meet,” “Things That Move,” “Elections,” “Going Green,” “Thanksgiving,” “Animal Homes,” “Creepy, Crawly Insects,” “Baby and Adult Animals,” and “Christmas Traditions.”
They learned about the letters “Gg” through “Ll” and position words. They learned about comparing distances near and far, AB patterns, graphing, counting items to 10, using ordinal numbers, organizing objects by size, height, or length, and comparing lengths.
They learned about sin/wrong choices, God’s family/baptism, saints, forgiveness, Advent, St. Nicholas, and Christmas - the birth of Jesus.
They talked about community workers, exploring sources of energy, objects in motion, traffic safety and road signs, community responsibility, environmental awareness, the role of author and illustrator, shapes in the real world, and time words (yesterday, today, tomorrow, before, after, during).
Some of the activities they did included grape and favorite animal graphing; exploring inclines, motion, and speed; using playdough to show size; making an Advent wreath; looking for bugs using magnifying glasses and measuring them with attribute blocks; Christmas tree marble painting; making Christmas decorations; and making a nativity scene and a Santa puppet.
They had two art projects with mom volunteers. They made a Thanksgiving placemat in November and a Christmas t-shirt in December. Both were really fun!
They had a special mystery reader on December 2: me! I dressed in my Christmas pajamas and some fun Christmas hats and read the book Santa’s Hat. Each student got to take home their very own Santa hat and Christmas cup. They looked so cute!
They celebrated St. Nicholas Day on December 6 and received special treats in their shoes.
They had a special movie day on December 16 (the same day as the all-school pajama day) when they had milk and cookies and watched Frozen. So fun!
Rory received a very nice thank you note from Mrs. Claire for her Christmas gift. And Claire and Lisa gave Dana and me Bath and Body Works soap and lotion sets and really cool SCR fleur-de-lis decorations. So nice!
And with that, Rory’s second half of his PK3 year has begun. I know he’s going to have a wonderful time!
