Riley did very well during his second nine weeks of 1st grade. He had some issues with his conduct, and his handwriting is still the skill he needs the most work on, but overall he did great. Kenny and I are so very proud of him.
They learned about singular and plural nouns, irregular plural nouns, possessive nouns, common and proper nouns, capitalization of proper nouns, contractions, commas in a series, and verbs.
They learned multiple subtraction concepts and strategies on how to count to 20, They used techniques such as counting on, counting using pennies, using a number line, and using doubles to add.

First grade won the spirit stick at the school pep rally on October 31!
They made a cute art project on December 1.
They learned all about the rosary, the order of Mass, the church, and their class saint, Saint Andrew. They celebrated his feast day on December 2 and presented about him at morning assembly.
They celebrated St. Nick’s Day on December 6 and received a special treat in their shoe.
They had a great time with their class elf, Jingle, during the month of December. During the last full week of school before Christmas break, they enjoyed an Elf Day, a Grinch Day, and a Polar Express Day. They did lots of fun activities and played games and watched movies. Riley loved that week at school, especially because he got to wear pajamas two days in a row!
Just before the break, Mrs. Smith sent home a sweet note from her and the other first grade teachers, as well as a cute ornament gift for Riley. So nice!
The second half of Riley’s first grade year starts today. Here’s hoping it’s even better than the first half was.
