Corks

As most of you know, my family drinks wine. We drink a LOT of wine. Thus our recent trip to Sonoma and the 14 cases of wine we purchased. (Sidenote: You should see the wine rack here at Nola and Nopsi’s. Wow. It occupies one whole wall in a closet off the kitchen, and it looks pretty impressive all filled with bottles.)

As such, we have a collection of wine corks that Nola keeps in a metal bucket in a corner of the dining room. When we finish off yet another bottle, we toss in the spent cork with the others. I’m not sure how many times we’ve emptied the bucket, but I can promise it’s been more than once.

Riley discovered the cork bucket months ago, and he still loves playing with it. More accurately, he loves dumping the corks out and spreading them all over the dining room floor.

However, he has recently taken things a step further and now likes to “taste” a handful of the corks as he plays with them. Super. We’re certainly starting him off on the right foot mighty early. What awesome parents we are.

Who knew when Nopsi gave the boy a cork at our Christmas Eve dinner last year that it would become one of his favorite playthings? Oh, and we’re also having a special Christmas lunch in the Rib Room today at the Omni Royal Orleans….I’m sure there will be plenty of corks for Riley to play with at the table! Look for a recap of our fun afternoon sometime next week. Merry {almost} Christmas!

We need to toss in a few Champagne corks, for sure. Teach him about the finer things in life....
