Rory’s first nine weeks of PK4 were spectacularly busy. They did and learned so much. And he loves Mrs. Sue and Ms. Megan. Here’s his recap!
They learned about the letters A, M, S, and P, the numbers 1-5, and the colors red, blue, and yellow.
They began a reading series and even started learning a few sight words: I, a, like, see, am, we, and to.
They practiced a LOT with their scissors. Rory got quite good at mastering the skill, much faster than his brother did. They also began practicing their handwriting in their journals, but I haven’t seen it yet. Rory struggles with his “y’s” but he’s improving!
In math, they learned how to sort by different attributes (color, size, shape) and about matching quantities, classifying, alike/different, and position/direction.
In religion, they learned about the Trinity, creation (Adam and Eve), the Ten Commandments, the Holy Rosary, God making everyone special, and loving others as God loves everyone.
They did lots of art projects: blob painting, a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom coconut tree, apple painting, creating a fall tree, making a class spider web, Jack-o-lantern, Mr. Candy Corn, Van Gogh masterpiece painting, and lots more.
They had a special eclipse party on August 21 with moon pies, sun chips, and capri sun drinks. They also had an apple tasting with red, yellow, and green apples, applesauce, apple pie, and apple juice. And they had a “P” party with pizza bites, pretzels, and popcorn.
They met their big buddies the second week of school. Rory and Colin share the same buddy, Anthony. He’s the son of one of the third grade teachers, and he is such a nice kid. The little ones love him!
They have done so many fun things with their buddies: teddy bear picnic, dancing the hokey pokey, playing games, decorating pumpkins.
Rory has had a couple of classroom jobs, including weather reporter and door holder. And he has gotten to pick a prize from the treasure chest every time he’s collected 5 stickers throughout the week for being good. We haven’t gotten any bad behavior reports for him!
I was able to help teach the PK4 fair dance a few times throughout October. They danced to “Shake It Off” and picked up the simple choreography really quickly. And the red and gold shakers that Dana found for them to use were so fun. The only problem was, Rory cried when he saw me in the gym! So what was supposed to be fun turned out to be me having to calm him down instead. He got better but I mean, geez.
Overall, Rory is doing beautifully in PK4. His teachers are awesome, he’s made a few new friends, and he’s learning so much. We love SCR!

Another great post. You do such a good job on keeping us all apprised of the boys' schoolwork and school FUN. And I spied Rory as Pete the Cat! Awesome.
