2017 SCR Oyster Festival, Part One

The boys’ 2017 school fair was November 10-12. I helped Dana and Heidi decorate Mrs. Sue’s PK4 class booth Friday morning after we dropped the kids off. The fair theme this year was “Peace, Love, and Learning” in honor of St. Clement’s 50th year of Catholic education.

Each grade was assigned a decade to represent; PK4 got the most recent {incomplete} one: 2010-16. Dana and Heidi decided to go with the Saints’ 2010 Superbowl win for the booth, and it came out really great. They even put a winged pig (a.k.a. Penelope) on the roof!

Second grade’s 90s themed fair booth came out cute, too. Kelli and Ashley put the kids’ faces on CDs and Ms. Paulin’s and Ms. Cobb’s faces on posters of Kriss Kross. Totally awesome, dude.

We took short breaks from decorating when our kids went up onstage to practice their fair dances. They all did great!

The boys only have a half day of school on fair Friday. Heidi and I took our four to Chick-Fil-A for lunch and then we came back home to rest before going back out. Then the real fun commenced!

Dana, Diana, Heidi, and I worked the silly string and confetti eggs booth together that night. We all wished Bag of Donuts had played instead of Groovy 7, but we had a great night anyway. Dana and I even took advantage of what we were selling and smashed a couple of confetti eggs into each other’s hair. Fun.

I made sure to get a shot of our booth at night in all of its glory before going home. Although it was definitely in the running, it unfortunately did not win the booth contest. It came in third. Dana and Heidi were so bummed.

We were back out at the fair the next day around 12:30pm. The boys performed at 1:30 (Rory) and 2:15 (Riley). Nola, Nopsi, Uncle Jeff, Aunt E, Kate, Luke, and Grandma came out to see them. At 1, I took Rory to meet the rest of his class and get his costume.

After taking some really cute pics with Colin, Rory ended up losing it when Dana tried to put eye-black stickers on his face as part of his costume. I tried to calm him down but he worked himself up pretty good and couldn’t snap out of it. He went up onstage but barely made it 20 seconds into his dance before he lost it again. Kenny went to rescue him, so he didn’t end up doing the dance he had practiced in PE for 6 weeks. Poor thing.

As expected, Riley’s performance went much better. And since they were dancing to “Jump” by Kriss Kross, their costumes were backwards baseball shirts and jeans. So freaking awesome.
