Dancing in Primetime

Even though I watch an obnoxious amount of television, this is actually my first season watching "Dancing with the Stars," but I have to say I'm hooked. The show picked a good group of celebrities this season that provide for very entertaining primetime. I only wanted to watch the show because of Misty May, but she's not the only one that keeps me coming back every week! Maurice Greene and Warren Sapp crack me up, and even Lance Bass is making me smile. Brooke Burke is almost annoyingly perfect, but she dances great and looks darned good for having 4 (four!) children. I'm indifferent about Toni Braxton, Cody Linley, and Rocco DiSpirito, but Kim Kardashian and Susan Lucci can go. And although Cloris Leachman's antics were funny the first night, I think I'm ready to see her go too. But hats off to the 82-year-old: she still can move around the dance floor! We'll see who makes it through the elimination tonight....

Football, friends, and fun

While it wasn't the perfect fall day (is there really such a thing in southern Louisiana?), a good time was had by all in Baton Rouge this weekend. As always, Eddie and Mary were great hosts, never seeming to mind the lot of us crashing their camper tailgate. Eddie fried up some catfish, and the ever-present jambalaya and spinach dip tasted better than ever. After hanging at the camper for most of the afternoon, we left to visit Bobby, my brother, and the Pirates before heading into the stadium. The Tigers took care of the Bulldogs in a slightly unimpressive contest, and I realized that I am too old to sit in the student section. Those kids look like babies! Perhaps we'll have to start sitting in our actual seats when we get tickets instead of sneaking into the north endzone....

Fun-filled weekend, coming up!

After LSU's exciting game against Auburn last Saturday, I am very much looking forward to the Tigers taking on Mississippi State in Death Valley tomorrow night. Kenny and I were able to find tickets, so we will be heading to Baton Rouge around noon tomorrow to do some tailgating before the game. Many of our friends will be there with us, and I'm excited to spend a perfect Louisiana fall day in the capital city.

But first Kenny and I will play host to 4 houseguests! Lizzie, Doug, Ashley, and the Nolan are heading to Cajun country to stay with us tonight. Chili (and beer) for dinner and, I hope, a mean game of Apples to Apples afterwards. I just hope we don't stay up too late....we need to be rested and refreshed to party with our fellow LSU fans tomorrow!

Zac is 2 years old

After having to postpone twice because of those darned hurricanes, we were finally able to gather in Baton Rouge to celebrate our nephew Zac's second birthday. It was a small family affair at Steve and Jaimi's place, with a cute barnyard animal theme. Jaimi even created pig and cow cupcakes specially for the birthday boy!

Happy 30th, Bobby!

Our good friend Bobby turned 30 this month, and his wife Paulan surprised him with a gathering of many of his good friends and neighbors at their house in Baton Rouge on Saturday. The turnout was great, and we celebrated Bobby's birthday by cheering our Tigers on to victory against Auburn. It was a nail-biter of a game, but LSU beat Auburn on the road for the first time in 10 years. I don't think Bobby could have asked for a better way to mark his 30th birthday!

It's true....Pat is married!

The ceremony at Holy Rosary Church in St. Amant was beautiful, Pat and Marci looked so happy together, and great fun was had by all at the reception (Elegant Affairs in Gonzales, LA). Kenny and I had such a good time hanging with all of the friends in attendance, and the Gutter Sharks sure did crank out some awesome music. Congratulations!

I don't have enough time right now, but I promise I will be posting lots tomorrow. Kenny and I had a great weekend, and I'll share everything soon. Stay tuned!

Congrats, Overserved!

My old volleyball team out at Coconut Beach in New Orleans continues to play and is starting off their new season right. They won their match last night, and it only took them 2 games to put their opponents away. Geaux Overserved!

Fate, meet Pleepleus

This is my brother's cat, Fate, and she has a monkey on her back. That's Pleepleus! He is one of the stars of a fantastic show on the MOJO channel, "Three Sheets." Thanks to my parents, Kenny and I are now hooked on Pleepleus, Zane, and the rest of the "Three Sheets" family. It's a fun and entertaining show about drinking customs and cultures around the world. Check it out if you can!

Critters Everywhere

Allow me to explain. I live on a lot that backs up to a small stretch of woods, and Kenny warned me that would mean lots of different "visitors" in our backyard. I didn't think it meant some would find ways into the house as well! I found this little salamander hiding under our bathmat one day. The picture isn't great, but he actually had some really cool markings on him! Since my last job required me to handle snakes, lizards, roaches, and spiders every day, this little guy was easy to deal with. I set him free in the grass by the back patio, keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't make a second appearance in my bathroom!

'Villes in 'Ville

OK, so since my last name ends in "ville" and I now live in a city ending in "ville," hence my blog name of "The 'Ville." It was the best I could come up with when faced with the pressure of picking a name! I am married to a wonderful guy named Kenny, and we recently bought a house just south of Lafayette, Louisiana. We are definitely in Bible Belt Cajun Country, y'all! But, being born and raised in the New Orleans area, we still feel right at home here. And, we're actually closer to Baton Rouge, which works out well for traveling to LSU for football games. GEAUX TIGERS!

Here goes....

So I have to thank Ashley for giving me the nudge to start blogging. It sure seems to be a big craze right now, and I have to admit I do find the whole idea intriguing. I sure do have lots of spare time right now since I am currently sans job, so I thought, why not give it a try? I can't promise I'll always have something fun and interesting to write about, but I will surely try to be as entertaining as I can. Enjoy!
