Summer Days, Part Two

In mid-July, the boys and I had check-ups at the dentist, and then we went to find them new tennis shoes. (They would need them on our last summer vacation!) I took them to the Skechers outlet and they both found shoes they really liked. And both pairs light up. Super.  Then that night, Kenny built them a tent fort in Rory's room, which they slept in for two nights.

The next week, starting July 22, was Rory's first grade readiness camp at school. He had a great week with his friends. (Riley wanted to stay and "help" Ms. Paulin and Mrs. Rucker with the 2nd and 3rd grade camps, so they let him assist with roll call one morning. Lord.)

They did lots of activities involving sight words, reading, writing, and math. They played phonics and rhyming games, did plenty  of rainbow writing, ABC wrote the room, wrote sight words in shaving cream on their desks, and went on a sight word hunt.

They also worked on a summer bucket list, made a "noun" pizza, completed an emotion writing project to go along with The Pout Pout Fish book (Rory pouts when I don't let him talk but smiles when I let him play Nintendo), brainstormed what they would do if they had a magic wand (*tear* Rory wrote that he would make Riley like him more), and created a sticker story. And they practiced adding and subtracting using technology, dominoes, fruit loops, playing cards, and bingo markers.

Riley and I had a special day of our own while Rory was at camp: we made butterbeer, donned Harry Potter glasses, and watched the third movie, Prisoner of Azkaban. Riley loved it!

Rory finished camp on Friday, July 26. We left the next day on our last trip of the summer: California!
