Pensacola 2019: Days One through Four

Our annual trip to Pensacola took place the last full week of June. We went a little later than usual on account of Kenny's and my trip to Punta Cana, and it also coincided with our friends' trip to Bay St. Louis. But we had another great vacation week with my fam!

Uncle Jeff picked Rory and I up in BSL on Saturday morning, and we drove on to meet Nola and Nopsi in Florida. And, since Kenny stayed in Mississippi with Riley, things went a bit differently when we got to the boat launch: I ended up driving the boat while Nopsi drove his car and the trailer. I made it to Shaggy's with no incidents! We had a much needed lunch before finally heading to the beach house. The kids played in the sand, there was a gorgeous sunset, and Nola taught Jeff how to play cribbage.

The next day there was lots of dock jumping, resting and relaxing, secret telling, game playing, and waiting for Riley and Kenny to arrive. They got there around 3:30 and the cousins had a fun afternoon together. Nopsi even gave them each a fun drink cup to use all week!

Monday morning was a bit different than the norm. Nopsi had another surprise for the kids: he custom made each of them their own Treasure X. It was quite the process (even after soaking the blocks in the bay for a little while, they were still fairly hard to break apart), but they all managed to unearth the treasures that Nopsi picked out for them. There were gemstones, small Lego packs, monster trucks, jewelry, snap and pops, candy, and $20 for each of them (which would come into play later). The kids were SO excited.

We cooled off in the water after all of our hard work excavating, spent some down time inside working on summer workbooks after lunch, then went back outside for popsicles and more play time before dinner and evening games. Rory was an UNO fiend this trip!

The next day we decided to walk across to the Gulf side. The water ended up being much more brown than it usually is, but that didn't stop the kids from jumping right in. They did lots of boogie boarding, hole digging, and truck racing. Oh, and Riley caught a big blue crab when we got back to the house (the first of many).

Second half recap coming up next!
