School Days: SCR Spirit Week

During the last week of April, SCR hosted a Virtual Spirit Week. It provided a nice break from the monotony of homeschooling: we had different prompts each day to follow.

First up was Mood Booster Monday. We were supposed to relax, do some yoga, go for a walk, have a picnic, or exercise to get our minds set for the week ahead. The boys enjoyed a picnic lunch on the playset, and then we all did some beginner's yoga in the backyard that afternoon. The boys even created their own poses: Riley came up with "tickling tree" and Rory came up with "kicker."

Next was Take Me Back Tuesday. They got to share a favorite memory from the school year. Riley picked the fair and Rory picked his field trip to LCM.

Then it was What Ya Reading Wednesday. They stayed in their pajamas all day and shared what they were reading at the time. For Riley it was Harry Potter 4 and Wonder, and for Rory it was Harry Potter 1.

After that was Tasty Thursday. We were supposed to get in the kitchen and make a yummy treat to eat, but we cheated a bit and just brought ying yangs to the levee to enjoy. They loved having cookies for their morning snack!

The last day of Spirit Week was Field Day Friday. This was the originally scheduled annual Field Day at Johnny Bright, so we honored it by wearing SCR spirit shirts and having our own mini Field Day. Kenny took the day off work, and the four of us rode bikes over to Nola and Nopsi's. I set up an obstacle course in and around the pool, which both boys completed as quick as they could while I broadcasted live on Facebook. It was so much fun!

But before Field Day, we did something else very special. The SCR staff organized a drive-thru parade in the front parking lot of school so the kids could see all of their teachers, whom they had been missing for more than six weeks. The grade levels were divided into three separate groups for an hour at a time. I decorated the car and made a sign, and we borrowed Uncle Jeff's bubble machine and mounted it to the roof. We drove through for Rory's teachers first and then went back a little while later for Riley's. It was so awesome seeing everyone!

Last day of school recap up next!

Looks like everyone at SCR really worked hard to help parents school their kids at home. You must be really happy with your choice of schools!
