We stopped on our way home from the farm to get our Christmas tree. We tried Lowe’s first, but they had absolutely no trees in our desired height range. It was nuts how empty it was there. So we went over to Home Depot. The selection there wasn’t great either, but we found our tree. Kenny actually commented when he lifted her that he hoped we wouldn’t choose that particular one because he could tell she was massive. Oh well! Home with us she came.
Kenny had to cut the base quite a bit because it wouldn’t even fit into our stand. The trunk was just too wide. But he made it work and hefted her inside the house that afternoon. Once I saw her in place, I decided she was big enough to deserve a name. Thanks to some help from Dana, I officially dubbed her Big Bertha.
Kenny put lights on her Monday night (he even had to go buy three more strands so she wouldn’t be partially naked!), and we decorated her on Tuesday evening. Riley was a big help to Kenny with the lights, and both boys really got into putting ornaments on her.
We also decorated the boys’ little tree that sits on the landing of the stairs. Riley refused to help, but Rory and I had fun trimming it!
I also ordered a new fancy and bejeweled star, which Riley wanted for the top of their little tree. We may switch things out next year, but it looks good up there. And I loved my boys and I all in festive Christmas pajama bottoms!
And, thank the Lord, Bertha has remained standing tall and proud. I pray she stays that way until we take her down in January.
‘Tis the season, y’all!

1. In a house known for its huge Christmas trees, Big Bertha is definitely the HUGEST!
2. Can Riley come help NOPSI with the lights next year?
3. I'm so glad that YOUR children actually HELPED YOU DECORATE THE TREE. Mine never did.
