LP and DB: Rehearsal and Dinner

The first official event of Lizzie and Doug’s wedding weekend was, of course, the ceremony rehearsal. This took place on Thursday evening at the Immaculate Conception Church on Baronne Avenue in downtown New Orleans. I had been to a few weddings there in the past, but I always forget just how gorgeous it is.

Everyone was on time arriving, except for the priest, who got caught in traffic. Oops. Despite his absence, the rehearsal went very smoothly, and we were outta there in under an hour.

 

We then walked over to where the rehearsal dinner was held, about three blocks from the church at Le Foret. Lizzie decided to have a reception-style dinner instead of sit-down. This meant everyone could mix, mingle, chat, and eat whenever and wherever they wanted to all night. Good call, LP; dinner was fabulous!

 

After everyone had gotten a chance to eat, the toasts started and went on for more than an hour. Lizzie and Doug did a little presentation first with the results of their survey questions (part of their wedding response card), and then there were a number of people who wanted to get up and express their wishes for the happy couple (including yours truly, who composed a short poem for the occasion). There were laughs, there were tears, and there was a lot of applause.

People sure do love these two.

Video Tuesday: Dinnertime Conversation

As Kenny and I were driving home from downtown on Sunday afternoon, he was lamenting the fact that he had to go back to work in the morning. I also realized that I had to go back to “work,” too: I had to completely switch gears back to being a mom. I sure did miss my boy while we were busy with wedding events, but I have to admit it was nice being off duty for a few days.

However, if my first full day back with Riley was any indication, this is going to be a rough week:

I stubbed my right big toe on Riley’s changing table and ripped more than half of the nail away from the bed. Ouch.

Then I banged the top of my head, hard, on the underside of the cabinet in the laundry room. Double ouch.

And then I cut my finger outside while trying to flip the circuit breaker to our master bedroom. Triple ouch.

But I also somehow managed to empty the dishwasher, wash and fold six loads of laundry, vacuum most of the downstairs, and cook dinner for Kenny and me, all while handling the needs of an increasingly stubborn 20-month-old little boy.

Video Monday: Crawfish Cleanup

I’m going to do my best to post every day this week because there is so much to document and catch everyone up on.

LP and DB finally tied the knot this past Saturday, so last week was jam-packed with lots of fun events relating to their wedding. And since I was a part of the fantastic wedding party (Kenny too), you can imagine how exhausted I am. Things were non-stop from Wednesday until Sunday, but it was all so worth it. We had such a great time.

For today, please enjoy this video of Riley helping to clean up after our crawfish boil last weekend. In the meantime, I will do my best to sort through the hundreds of pictures from all of the wedding festivities and write up multiple recap posts for later in the week.

One thing’s for sure: it was an epic wedding weekend. Many sincerest congratulations to the newlyweds!

Annual Crawfish Boil

Kenny and I hosted our annual crawfish boil last weekend, and for the third year in a row, we welcomed people to a new location: our new house!

It was a clear day weather-wise, although a tad hot, and we had a really good turnout. A few of our friends that we hadn’t seen in a long time were even able to make it, which made the day extra special.

Riley was just one of many kids running around all day, and they all had such fun playing in the backyard with each other. Big thanks to Scott who brought his awesome ride-on train!

 

 

 

Despite a bit of an overestimation on the amount of crawfish needed (boy, is that an understatement….we sent multiple people home with doggy bags) and therefore more work for Kenny (he boiled 6 pots worth), we ultimately deemed the day a success.

 

 

Riley’s favorite part, however, was after everyone was gone and it was time to clean up. But only because he got to help with spraying down the pots.

 

 

He almost didn’t need a bath that night!

Almost.

Video Tuesday: Dipping Sticks

Nola taught Riley how to dip his food into a sauce a couple of months ago, and he loves doing it. I don’t do dips with him often, simply because he usually makes a royal mess. But I gave him fish sticks for dinner one night last week and decided to let him dip them into ketchup if he wanted to.

Oh, he wanted to.
