The day after we got back from Pensacola, we went down to the Quarter to meet Grandma, Grandpa, and James, who had been in town from California for a few days. It was his last full day in NOLA, and he wanted to spend it walking around. In the blazing heat. Fun!
We started out at Crescent City Brewhouse for lunch and then ducked into Laura’s Candies on our way to Jackson Square. After less than an hour of walking, we were all ready to call it quits. We picked up snoballs on the way back to our house and hung out in the A/C the rest of the afternoon. It was great to see James, even if it was for a very short time.
July 4 was a few days later, and we went to Nola and Nopsi’s for their annual party. In fact, our whole school crew was able to come (Lizzie and Doug and the Brownies too!); the kids had a great time in the pool all afternoon. Happy Birthday, America!
That Saturday saw us going in separate directions. Kenny took the boys to his boss Lee’s house for his annual 4th celebration. The giant waterslide was present again, as well as ice cream and ginormous strawberries. They had a blast!
Meanwhile, I went for a short overnight stay at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi with my girls. I drove Bridget and Karen, and Miche met us there. It was such a nice getaway; we hadn’t all been together just us in a really long time. We hung by the pool in the afternoon (where I impressed two total strangers with my definitive lounge chair claiming capabilities and then took a selfie with them before they left) and had a great dinner at Stalla in the casino that night.
Loved that time with some of my oldest friends. I do believe we’ll make it a tradition!
