Rory turned 5 on March 14. We had his party the Saturday before, at our house, with a double-slide bounce house, per the birthday boy’s request. He wanted a truck themed party again, so that’s what he got! He also asked for a cement mixer cookie cake, which Kenny and Grandma made happen.
The party was at 2 in the afternoon, and the weather luckily cooperated. It rained briefly in the morning but everything was clear by party time! We had about 20 kids show up and they had a blast, both playing outside in the bounce house and inside with Rory’s trucks.
We made Rory take a break from bouncing and sliding so we could sing “Happy Birthday” to him but then he was right back outside. He didn’t want to waste one minute of play time and had no interest in his cake.
Kenny gathered a collection of Mardi Gras balls and threw them into the bounce house for the kids to play with during the party. At one point, an impromptu game of catch started between some of the kids and a few of the dads. They had the best time.
While Luke just relaxed in the middle of them.
Once everyone had left, we finally let Rory open his presents. He got some really cool stuff, including a set of Magic Tracks, which he loves. And a whole lot of Target gift cards which he can’t wait to spend.
A handful of people stuck around for a while after the party. The kids played, we broke out the beer, and everyone had a great time. Jeff and I also documented that we were practically wearing the same thing, completely unplanned. And Rory finally sat down as it was getting dark to eat some of his birthday cake. As well as show off his incredibly dirty feet.
On his birthday morning, Rory came downstairs to discover balloons all over the breakfast area, a ring of red cars around his birthday plate, and his gift. He was so excited.
He unfortunately had to go to school on his birthday, but they had a really fun day. He got a special birthday certificate from Mrs. Sue and Ms. Megan, and he brought ying yangs and watermelon juice pouches for his whole class to enjoy.
Grandma and I picked up both boys after school and went to the zoo. Rory wanted to pick out a few things from the gift shop, so that’s what Grandma gave him for his birthday. We are now the proud owners of even more trucks, a squeaky white alligator, and a really, really, really long stuffed snake.
After the zoo, we took the birthday boy and his brother to Chick-Fil-A for dinner and then finally went home so Rory could have his birthday dessert: a Hershey bar. His favorite right now!
I’d say the new 5-year-old had a pretty great birthday celebration.
Happy happy birthday, sweet Rory. Daddy and I love you so very much!

That sounds like the best birthday ever, especially ending with Chic Fil A and chocolate! Good job, Mom and Dad.
