Two weekends ago, I decided we needed a family fun day. It was gorgeous out, so I suggested to Kenny that we take the boys on a streetcar ride.
It was Rory’s first time on a streetcar and Riley’s second. We parked off of Carrollton and hopped on for a nice long ride all the way to Canal Street. We all got seats, but our car got much more crowded the closer we got to the end of the line.
There were lots of people jumping on to go down to French Quarter Festival. Since we were so close to it, we decided we should check it out too. So we walked up Canal and over to Woldenberg Park along the river.
We ended up running into Josh and Amy and got to meet their new baby Molly. She’s so cute and tiny!
It didn’t take the boys long to find a patch of sand to play in. Then I spotted a booth with my beloved cochon de lait sandwiches, so we got one of those and also, a little later, a Cajun Cuban sandwich. The boys tried some of the pork and then had huge snoballs from Plum Street’s booth.
We listened to a bit of music by Lillian Boutte & Gumbo Zaire on the Abita Beer stage, made a bathroom pit stop in Canal Place, and then went to catch a streetcar back to our car. We weren’t out at the festival long, but we had a great time.
The boys were very tired on the ride back; it had been a long day with a lot of walking. But we had another nice ride and got to our car with no issues or delays.
Everyone perked up a bit once we were back home. It was still so pretty outside, though, so we ended up going back out for dinner on the lake at Blue Crab. We had a nice meal (and Riley colored a masterpiece on the back of his menu) and finished in time to watch a gorgeous sunset over the lake.
Family fun day for the win!
