Last Thursday afternoon I was one of many special guests in Riley’s classroom. All moms were invited to attend Tea for Two, a tradition in the kids’ PK4 year.
We were encouraged to dress for the occasion, pulling out our pearls, feather boas, and hats. We also had to send in special clothes for the kids to wear: mom’s blouse or shirt and high heels for the girls and dad’s dress shirt, tie, and shoes for the boys. Riley loved picking out one of Kenny’s green polo shirts and his Mickey tie to wear.
Tea took place in each of the three PK4 classrooms, which the teachers had transformed into little cafes. Everything looked so cute on the tables: tiny little teapots, cups and saucers, spoons, placecards, and plates. There were even fresh flowers.
The kids were all dressed up in their parents’ clothes when we arrived. They were so excited and looked so freaking cute. After greeting their moms, Ms. Amelie told them to line up in front of their cubbies. It turned out they had a special performance for us: they sang three songs, including “I’m a Little Teapot.” So sweet.
After they finished singing, we sat down to tea. Riley wondered if he would like it, but when I spotted what the “tea” was, I was sure he would be alright. We drank pink lemonade and had cookies and animal crackers. Riley must have had about 8 cups of “tea.” After about his fourth cup, he informed me that I had to get some of it for home. Duly noted, son.
Such a special afternoon with my boy. I loved spending time with him at school, just like Kenny got to do in the fall. Huge thanks to Lizzie for lending me her fabulous pink hat and a boa to wear!
Now please enjoy the ridiculously cute performance by Riley and his fellow classmates. Warning: you may want to watch it more than once.
Happy Monday!
