Video Monday: On a Thursday Afternoon

As most of you undoubtedly know, Riley LOVES being outside. Weather permitting, our daily routine normally consists of a couple of hours of outside time before lunch and then another hour or so after his nap. He hearts the great outdoors. A lot. (I will not heart it in the heat of the summer, though. Bleh.)

So last Thursday afternoon found us outside on the driveway per usual, playing with the plethora of sports balls Nopsi has collected over the years. After a little while, Riley spotted his Little Tikes car in the garage, so I obliged his request (“Eh, eh, eh!”) and took him for a little ride down the street. When we emerged into the front yard, however, we were greeted with an unexpected site: a REALLY BIG PUDDLE.

Our next-door neighbor was draining his pool, and the fast-flowing water created one heck of an instant playground for Riley-bean. So, after our little ride, he climbed out of his car and I let him run straight into the really big puddle.

His shoes and socks were, of course, instantly soaked through, and his pants and part of his shirt quickly followed.

He kept going back and forth between the deep part of the puddle and the hose on our neighbor’s lawn, curiosity abounding at how the water got from one place to the other. Needless to say, he had a ball.

Then, as we were heading inside to dry off for dinner, I spotted a baby turtle on our driveway. Two fun things in one afternoon!

Riley was not shy at all about reaching out to touch the little reptile and practically tried to scratch his shell off. Poor little guy; I’m sorry my son and I interrupted your normally peaceful existence. I hope the spot in the garden where I placed you was to your liking.

Riley’s father would have preferred we keep you as a pet.

No need to thank me.

Here’s a video of Riley-bean splashing around in the really big puddle…..enjoy!

Happy Monday!

He immediately makes the connection between the water gushing out of the hose and the big puddle. So stinkin' smart.
