Video Friday: Rory Speak

Rory has become incredibly vocal lately. He loves testing out those lungs of his and figuring out all of the different sounds he can make. Some of them are pretty impressive.

IMG_2192

He was particularly chatty one afternoon last week, especially when I dangled his paci over his head.

Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend everyone!

The Quotable Riley-bean, Part Six

June 14: (Me: Which one do you want to do, Buddy: break it or bite it?) Hmmmm, let me think. The deal is……break it or bite it. Well…..um…..you want to break it! Yeah, that’s what you want to do!

DSC_2513

June 18: (Me: Hey Riley, you see that yellow crumb on the floor?) Yeah. (Me: Can you pick it up for me, please?) Sure thing, milady!

DSC_2517

June 18: You didn’t get the Cheerios, Mama? (Me: Nope.) That’s good. I didn’t want Cheerios.

IMG_2173

June 19: You want a tree, Mama! (Me: What do you want a tree for, Buddy?) You want a tree! (Me: I understand you want a tree, but what do you want to do with the tree once you get it?) *pauses* Put it in the backyard! (Me: Oh, okay. What kind of tree do you want?) A merp craytle! You want a merp craytle!

June 20: It’s leopard’s birthday! We have to blow up balloons for leopard’s birthday. Happy Birthday, leopard!

IMG_2189

Whew. So glad he’s quotable again.

Random Rory

Thinking deep thoughts in his sleep…..

IMG_2144

He is constantly waking himself up by bringing his hands up to his face, so I got a little creative with the Boppy in an attempt to keep his hands in his lap. It worked only okay.

IMG_2154 IMG_2175

He loves looking up at my wiggling fingers.

IMG_2156

This little tiger was very sad when he found out LSU was eliminated from the CWS.

DSC_2534

Passed out. At 9 o’clock at night. Not in his bed. (And can you tell we go through quite a few bibs in a day? Yeah…..he’s still spitting up.)

IMG_2161

Cute monkey PJs!

IMG_2164 IMG_2165

Snuggling with Mama before bed…..

DSC_2717 DSC_2718

Keeping a firm grip on his paci, even in his sleep.

IMG_2183

Daddy recently introduced him to a new friend…..I wonder if he’ll become as attached to tiger as Riley is to giraffey!

IMG_2207 IMG_2208

Mama, when can we go back in the pool???

My Freshly Bathed Boys

I find myself sniffing the top of Rory's head all the time. I just can't help myself. His baby smell is just too inviting.

DSC_2697

I told that to Kenny the other night and wondered out loud when I’ll stop sniffing his head.

DSC_2699

He laughed and said, "Well, don't you still smell Riley’s head?"

DSC_2700

I replied, "Of course not. He smells like boy!"

DSC_2703

But then I remembered a time when I do sniff Riley’s head: after he has been freshly bathed.

DSC_2706

There's just something about that baby soap that smells so darn good.

DSC_2709

And while Rory will eventually lose his sweet baby smell, at least I'll be breathing in the scent of both of my freshly bathed boys for years to come.

Video Monday: Standin’ Man

Rory is loving standing up these days (with help and support from someone, of course).

IMG_7385

And most of the time when he’s standing, he’ll break out into huge smiles and make lots of happy and contented noises.

IMG_7386

I’m really enjoying him right now. He’s so much more settled than he was early on, and he’s developing such a cute little personality. Here’s a video to share his sweet smiles and coos with y’all.

Happy Monday!

Rory’s First Swim {Father’s Day Recap}

On Father’s Day morning, I got up with the boys while Kenny rightfully slept in later than usual. The three of us were in the kitchen when he woke up, and we presented his gifts and cards to him shortly after we wished him a happy day. We love you, Daddy!

DSC_2714

(Rory helped me make the crème brulee cheesecake bars the day before!)

IMG_2176

We spent the rest of the day at Nola and Nopsi’s house. Grams and Bop, Aunt E, Uncle Jeff, and Kate, and Kel-Kel and Skeets were all there as well. We had a great lunch and then some of us got into the pool afterwards.

DSC_0015 DSC_0022IMG_4224 IMG_4261

And when Rory woke up from a nap, Nola decided he should get into the pool, too. So I relented and took him for his first dip.

IMG_4249

IMG_4252

We stayed in the shade under the slide the whole time and I didn’t keep him in there for very long. But he seemed to enjoy it!

DSC_0006

And let me tell you…..with floaties on, Riley is a total WILD man in the pool this summer. He has absolutely no fear. Which is scary for me.

IMG_4259

Once he was out and dry, Rory sucked down a bottle outside and eventually passed out inside next to Nopsi for almost two hours.

Riley and Kenny stayed in the pool for about the same amount of time, completely wearing themselves out but having tons of fun. Riley was bathed and in bed by 7pm that night and was snoring by 7:30.

I hope everyone else’s Father’s Days were as nice as ours was. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Hot Fun in the Summertime at the Zoo

On our trip to the aquarium last month, Riley and I decided we should become members of Audubon. So we signed up that day and can now get into the aquarium, the insectarium, and the zoo for *free* for an entire year.

Last week I thought it might be fun to visit the zoo with Aunt E and Kate. So we loaded the kids up, made sure we had plenty of drinks and sunscreen, and braved the heat of the day.

This was Kate’s first trip to the zoo. It seemed like she enjoyed herself, although she was a bit limited on what she could see from her stroller. But I’m sure it won’t be long before she’s running around after Riley-bean.

IMG_7369

This was Rory’s first trip to the zoo, too, but he really couldn’t see anything from inside his seat. He actually slept a decent portion of our time there, which was great. But by the time we got back to the car he was seriously sweating. Poor thing.

IMG_7380
Riley was mostly enamored with the water features of the animals’ enclosures, rather than the animals themselves. However, he did say later that the monkeys were his favorite. He had a nice little conversation with that bronze gorilla. They’re pals now.

IMG_7362 IMG_7363IMG_7372 IMG_7366

And he really would have liked to play on Monkey Hill, but I wasn’t prepared for that. We’ll just have to go back another day to do that and the splash pad, crossing our fingers it’s not too crowded when we do.

IMG_7371

After walking around for about an hour, we took a much needed break inside the restaurant in the swamp area. Kate had a bottle, Riley had gummies and juice, and Erin, Rory, and I relished the air conditioning.

IMG_7376
When we were walking out of the swamp exhibit and heading towards the sea lions, we heard a bird singing. Riley stopped dead in his tracks, listened, and said, “I think that’s a gun. I think that’s a gun shooting missiles.” Wonk potatoes.

Thanks for coming with us, Aunt E and Kate! We’ll have to go back again soon…..that is, if we can stand the heat again.
